Friends and relatives raised $23,000 for a P.E.I. family during a benefit concert held Friday night at the Murphy Centre in Charlottetown.
Fabian Welsh and his children, Jennifer and Matthew, have a rare form of thyroid cancer called multiple endocrine Type 2. All three are undergoing treatments.
There have been close to 40 trips to Halifax, and they've seen dozens of doctors. They are currently being tested every few months. With this type of cancer there will be more tumours and more surgeries. The family said they are overwhelmed by the community support.
Heather Gates, Fabian Welsh's sister-in-law, helped organize the benefit.
"It was awesome. They couldn't believe the love and support they got that night. It'll help them a great deal with travel. They have a lot of travel to do and expenses, drugs," said Gates.
"They'll probably be more fundraising to do. It's a great help, but still it'll be ongoing."
Organizers hope to continue raising money for the family this week.
