A Prince Edward Island man wants to officially resurrect the community of Bay Fortune, 14 years after the area was stripped of its civic community status.

The community is currently marked as Eglington, a change that came when the province implemented a 911 emergency response system.

But Wallace Rose wants that reversed and he’s looking for support and signatures in his bid to have a Bay Fortune sign erected.

He points out it’s odd the well-known Inn at Bay Fortune is officially in Eglington, and he notes there’s also a Harbour Authority of Bay Fortune and Bay Fortune United Church.

"If you were born and raised in a small community, on the Island you tend to hold that area dear to your heart," he said. "For a government agency to take away the signage and the civic address community, I just think it's wrong."

Rose said the province has told him he needs signatures of support from 75 per cent of the area's landowners and he plans to pursue that goal over the summer.
