Attempted murder charge laid against Charlottetown woman
Charlottetown police have charged 41-year-old Marlo Docherty of Charlottetown with attempted murder.
Miss Docherty's intent was to kill. - Police Sgt. Walter Vessey
Police say Docherty stabbed a man she was in a relationship with in the chest with a kitchen knife while he was sleeping. The incident happened at a home on Rochford Street at 2 a.m. Monday.
"As a result of our investigation, we were able to ascertain that the gentleman who resided at that residence was stabbed in the chest while he was sleeping," said Charlottetown police Sgt. Walter Vessey.
"He was transported to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for medical treatment for his wounds."
Docherty and the man were both living in the home.
"The main thing for an attempted murder charge is, what was the mental intent of the person who caused the injury?" said Vessey.
"In this case, we were able to determine through the course of our investigation that Miss Docherty's intent was to kill the person that she stabbed."
Docherty is now in custody at the provincial jail. She will make her next court appearance Wednesday afternoon.
