RCMP have charged a P.E.I. man in relation to an alleged assault on a 17-year-old girl after she was found injured on the side of the road in the early morning hours of July 16.

Police were called at about 1 a.m. and were told the injured girl had been found along the Trans-Canada Highway at Cherry Valley east of Charlottetown. She was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown for treatment of minor injuries and later released. Police say the injuries occurred when the girl exited a moving vehicle.

According to an RCMP press release Gary Edward Brown, 38 of Farmington, P.E.I., has been charged with forcible confinement, assault and sexual assault. Police say the two did not know each other.

RCMP are being assisted by Charlottetown Police Services in their investigation.
