Tourism minister Robert Henderson said April of 2014 saw a significant increase in visitation compared to the same month last year.

He credits increased convention business and major events like East Coast Music Week.

During April, traffic on the Confederation Bridge was up by 11.4 per cent and the number of room nights sold was up by 14.9 per cent.

The total number of delegates attending meetings on the Island was up close to 1,500 compared to last April, an increase of close to 300 per cent.

He notes year-to-date bridge traffic is up 3.8 per cent and total room nights sold is up 5.2 per cent.

Henderson said these early numbers are encouraging.
