The goal of the National Aboriginal Science Camp is to engage students while they are young, says Neil Forbes, education director at P.E.I.'s Lennox Island First Nation. (CBC)

The event brings together native and Inuit youth from across the country.

"Really, the aim is to engage them young, so that they have time to make up their mind about what they want to do with their lives, where they want to go," said Neil Forbes, education director at P.E.I.'s Lennox Island First Nation and one of the organizers of the camp.

"Really promote post-secondary university and really promote science careers, just so they know what's out there."

Participants will be on the Island for the next week. This is the first time the camp has been held on P.E.I.
