RCMP on P.E.I. have charged five people in connection with an armed robbery and home invasion last May in Emyvale.

Two masked men forced their way into the home on May 28, said police, and then tied up, assaulted and robbed the man living there. Police said both men were in possession of firearms.

The investigation into the home invasion was difficult, says RCMP Sgt. Andrew Blackadar. (CBC)

RCMP Sgt. Andrew Blackadar said the 10-month investigation was a difficult one.

"It has been a long time," said Blackadar.

"We believed when the incident was reported that it was an isolated incident, that it was a targeted robbery, and that the public was not in any danger."

Blackadar said it took a lot of time and work to gather evidence in the case.

Armed robbery charges have been laid against 23-year-old Chase Roper and 22-year-old Derry Ian Bird. They have also been charged with armed robbery, wearing a mask in the commission of an offence, and assault with a weapon.

Three others — 26-year-old Jason Yeo, 21-year-old Jennifer Wakelin and 20-year-old Kaylee Maclean — were charged with being a party to the offence of the robbery.

All the accused are scheduled to appear in provincial court on Wednesday.
