A video on YouTube promoting P.E.I. tourism and the 2014 celebrations is getting lots of attention online.

2014 is a special year for P.E.I., marking the 150th anniversary of the Charlottetown Conference that began the negotiations leading to Confederation.

Since the end of November the ad has racked up more than 350,000 views. The province says the majority of people watch the entire video. It's close to three minutes long and highlights 2014 events and different tourism attractions on P.E.I.

"Nowadays social media is so big and people are looking at videos and really finding out information in the less conventional ways," said Tourism PEI marketing director Brenda Gallant.

"What we wanted to do is get a video out there that we would hope would start getting shared from coast to coast and even beyond into the U.S. and around the world. It really talks about what Prince Edward Island has to offer for visitors, and really showcasing our Island as a primary tourism destination."

Gallant says the rising number of views is a good sign for 2014 tourism. She said the province is also looking at doing a 30 second ad for TV.
