2 provincial campgrounds on P.E.I. open on long weekend
Brudenell and Mill River provincial campgrounds welcome visitors for 2014 season
P.E.I. provincial parks crews are gearing up for another season, with Brudenell and Mill River provincial parks open for the long weekend.
The parks have scattered openings in the early season.
"The amount of business available to those campgrounds hasn't really peaked yet, so it is in our fiscal best interest to stagger the opening of the campgrounds," said Andrew Sprague, senior communications officer with the department of Tourism and Culture.
'[We] open our more popular bigger campgrounds earlier on and we hold off on the rest of the campgrounds until a little later when the camping season starts to pick up."
Sprague notes some unserviced sites are being converted to two-way sites at Cabot Park and Red Point Park this year, there are playground upgrades at Kings Castle Provincial Park, and a pilot program for wireless internet will be available at a few campgrounds this year.
