Two men from Summerside, P.E.I., died in separate car crashes Monday afternoon, say police.
RCMP first responded to a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of routes 11 and 109 around 1:00 p.m. in Newton.
The 33-year-old driver died after failing to stop at a stop sign and was hit by a car coming from the other direction, said police.
He died in hospital.
A female passenger was airlifted to Halifax in critical condition. Three other people injured in the crash were not seriously injured.
Two hours later police responded a single-vehicle roll over crash near New Annan.
Paul Gerard Cormier, 53, from Summerside was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 3 p.m. on Monday.
The 57-year-old male driver was taken into police custody and faces charges of impaired driving causing death and impaired operation of a motor vehicle.
The driver was not injured and will appear in a Summerside court at a later date, said RCMP Sgt. Andrew Blackadar in a release.
