$15M deal boosts affordable housing programs on P.E.I.
Other Maritime provinces may get similar funding
P.E.I. had signed a $15 million deal with the federal government to help low-income residents afford the cost of housing.
The five-year deal was signed Friday in Charlottetown. It will let the province continue rent subsidies and similar programs. The negotiations took a year.
Valerie Docherty, the community services minister, said the new money will help pay for commitments in P.E.I.'s most recent budget.
"We'll be able to continue with our rent supplements. We'll be able to enhance the seniors' home repair program and continue with the home renovation program as well," she said.
Ottawa is expected to announce similar deals with Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
