A P.E.I. couple played a role in bringing the new musical Evangeline to the stage at the Charlottetown Festival this summer.
Evangeline had its world premiere at the festival, and costs $1.5 million to produce.
That cost was alleviated somewhat by a donation from Regis and Joan Duffy. The Charlottetown couple donated $100,000 towards the production cost.
Regis Duffy said his contribution is, in part, to help strengthen tourism on P.E.I.
"I think it's very important that the theatre be successful," he said.
"It's part of my attempt to encourage business. The Confederation Centre is a very important part of the tourist business in Charlottetown. I mean, it attracts a lot of people from P.E.I. and as far away as Louisiana."
Regis Duffy was the first Dean of Science at UPEI and created Diagnostic Chemicals Limited, a company focused on developing pharmaceutical ingredients.
