Uh-oh, not another one.

Word came this afternoon that this Parliament will soon be faced with yet another confidence motion.

Let's be clear here: there is already one scheduled tomorrow. It is Liberal-sponsored and couldn't be more simple: "That this House has lost confidence in the government."

It will probably not topple the government, but we'll all be glued to our monitors just the same.

This next confidence motion is not yet scheduled. And it comes, because of all things, softwood lumber.

On Monday, Canada was told by an international trade tribunal that it will have to pay $68 million in tariffs to the United States for violating the 2006 softwood lumber agreement. Essentially, Canada allowed too much lumber to be exported.

Ok, so back to the confidence motion.

In order to for Canada to respect the ruling, it has to impose new tariffs — so new tax measures.

That requires a "ways and means motion," which is a — wait for it — confidence motion.

The government insists it will not schedule the confidence motion until it knows it has enough support to survive the vote.

But, still another confidence vote is always another chance for some minority-government-inducing anxiety.
