Organizers of the G20 summit in Pittsburgh must have expected more media coverage.
Not as in more stories, but more journalists.
The main floor of the David L. Lawrence Convention Centre has 1,500 unassigned workspaces — each equipped with internet hookup, a power bar shaped like a flying saucer and a nice lamp.
With 20 countries— well 19 countries plus the European Union as members, that works out to 75 workspaces per country!
A rough count of the Canadian journalists here shows about 10 are using the workspace. Some of our television colleagues have different accommodations because of all the lights, monitors they need for a pretty backdrop.
Anyway. The Canadian contingent helps to explain why at least half the 1,500 workspaces are unoccupied as the leaders debate what to do next to combat the recession.
Perhaps the low media turnout is a sign of the times?
