Harper signs on
Urban dwellers see it all the time on mailboxes, city buses and under bridges — those swirly and mostly illegible (to laypeople, of course) signatures or "tags" posted by grafitti artists.
Well, Prime Minister Stephen Harper did a little tagging of his own on his tour of the North this week.
It started when the crew of a Sea King helicopter urged him to sign the exterior of the chopper that transported him to HMCS Toronto in the eastern Arctic on Wednesday.
Then today, en route to Pangnirtung on Air Nunavut, Harper observed how previous passengers had scrawled their names, trip dates and travel details on the walls of the cabin. So he pulled out a black felt tip pen and wrote:
"Stephen Harper
Prime Minister
August 20, 2009
Iqaluit-Pangnirtung"
If Harper is truly serious about this tagging business, he may want to think about consulting a real graffiti artist on developing a more discrete "handle" before giving it a try back in Ottawa.
