Fine dining
The Prime Minister's Office is hinting that Stephen Harper is going to treat the media to lunch. And reporters have already guessed what's on the menu — seal.
Harper is touring Canada's three northern territories this week.
While in Iqaluit on Monday, Prime Minister Harper supped on raw and boiled seal liver and ribs with members of his cabinet. Even Transport Minister John Baird, a vegetarian, tried the seal meat.
Speaking to reporters aboard HMCS Toronto on Wednesday, Harper laughed about Baird's culinary experience, saying his minister "had no choice."
As for his own taste of seal, Harper enjoyed it so much, he requested more seal for dinner Wednesday night.
Seal meal appears to be all the rage for visitors to the North.
Gov. Gen. Michaëlle Jean drew international attention for eating raw seal heart at a community gathering in May.
As for the media meal, we're expecting it tomorrow and PMO staff say Harper will pick up the tab himself.
