'And before I go . . .'
Stéphane Dion may be gone as Liberal leader but it will be a long time before his last speech will be forgotten.
On Friday evening the convention gathered for a tribute to Dion. He spoke at the end. And spoke. And spoke.
His speech was more than 30 minutes long and prompted a flurry of BlackBerry traffic featuring jokes about fire alarms and emergency rescues.
Those jokes continue today among senators, MPs, delegates and journalists.
Dion's speech drove many delegates from the room. The front row, however, including three former prime ministers and Michael Ignatieff, could not leave. The final speakers of the evening — including former supreme court justice and UN high commissioner for human rights, Louise Arbour — spoke to a mostly empty room.
