He was at the front of the room, smiling broadly, as many caucus members waited to greet him, a far cry from the mood following the recent election.

This coalition, should it come to pass, will be his last chance to become prime minister.

Dion's staff joked that he will get his portrait hung in the corridor of Parliament with the other prime ministers.

He will not be another Edward Blake, they joked, the only Liberal leader (the opponent of Sir John A. Macdonald) never to become prime minister.
