The elephant - and the bear - in the room
This week's stock sell-off on the TSX has served as the closest thing to a defining moment this campaign has had so far.
It has forced the economy onto the election agenda and created risks and opportunities for all the parties.
We saw an hour of debate dedicated to the subject on Wednesday and Thursday nights.
The most sobering statistic for anyone looking retirement in the eye? The TSX is down 21 per cent since the beginning of September. The bear is in the room. What are the politicians going to do about it?
All the talk is about economic management now.The opposition parties say the Conservatives don't know what they're doing, or worse, don't care.
The Conservatives say the opposition parties are exploiting bad news in the U.S. to badmouth Canada, but just in case things do get bad, they say it would be insane to take a risk on any of the other options on offer.
