Bloc leader considers mystery
Bloc leader Gilles Duceppe says he still hasn't gotten to the bottom of what many in the province describe as "Le Mystere de Quebec" (The Quebec City Mystery).
In the 2006 election, the Conservatives virtually swept the greater Quebec City area, leaving just one Bloc MP.
At the time, Duceppe said he was at a loss as to why Stephen Harper's Conservatives were able to win so decisively in ridings which the Bloc had won less than two years earlier, in the 2004 election.
Monday, Duceppe conceded Harper enjoyed a groundswell of support in the region in the last election, and that the Bloc must continue working hard to persuade voters to choose BQ.
"I'm not taking anything for granted," Duceppe says of the Oct. 14 vote.
He says just because people vote for the Bloc once, doesn't mean they automatically support the party, and sovereignty, forever.
