Who said what?
We're not audiotape experts over here at the CBC Parliamentary Bureau.
Yes, we work with audio equipment everyday and have done for many years, but we do not present ourselves as having the same kind of expertise that Thom Owen and Alan Gough have.
Owen and Gough are the experts hired by the Conservative party to analyse the now famous audio tape of an interview between Prime Minister Stephen Harper and author Tom Zytaruk during which they discuss the question of "financial considerations" for the late independent MP Chuck Cadman.
Their finding is that the tape has been edited and doctored. Owen says he has drawn that conclusion "with scientific certainty."
We are not experts. However, we have a question.
Whose voice is it that utters the first word on the audiotape?
Owen says, "The first word spoken is by Mr. Harper (0:05 secs.) The word is 'um.'
Gough says, "At the end of this segment (0:05) the voice of Mr. Zytaruk can be heard saying "Um..."
What would Columbo make of that?
