Bernier story getting noticed beyond Canada

In Canada, the fall out from the resignation of Maxime Bernier as minister of foreign affairs is front page news. And it's being noted in papers around the world.

The London Times' North American section leads with the Bernier story.

Le Monde also has Bernier at the top of its Americas section. The Washington Post has an on-line feature rating the top 35 articles about news around the world. This morning the top story is the gas price protests in Europe. In the middle of the pack just after a report on housing prices in Iran, and at No. 19, is the story about Bernier's resignation.

The Italian newspaper La Stampa today has a photo of the former foreign affairs minister's ex-girlfriend on its front page. The photo of Julie Couillard wearing that controversial dress runs underneath a banner that reads "Sexy Scandal in Canada."

The paper ran the photo and a story, today, the same day Harper arrived in Rome to meet the Italian prime minister.

As well, it seems like the Tories aren't the only ones getting hounded about the recent scandal over the former foreign affairs minister.

CBCNews.ca called the U.S State Department press room for a comment about Wednesday's Amnesty International report on human rights. But before the subject of the interview came up, the immediate response was: "Let me guess, Bernier."
