Persuasive action
The diplomatic effort is underway.
On Monday the Prime Minister told a news conference that as part of his response to the Manley panel on Afghanistan he would be leading the diplomatic effort to try to persuade NATO allies to provide more troops and equipment to the Kandahar mission in Southern Afghanistan.
Today, according to the PMO, Harper spoke to U.S. President George W. Bush.
"The Prime Minister conveyed to the President the findings of the (Manley) report and confirmed that he had publicly accepted the broad recommendations made by the Panel. He underscored that, unless Canada was able to meet the conditions specified by the panel of additional combat troops and equipment from NATO Allies, Canada's mission in Afghanistan will not be extended."
