Meet the copyrights
With the Harper government's plan for new copyright legislation expected imminently, Members of Parliament in certain ridings might do well to brush up on its implications especially with buzz of a spring election.
They can start by checking out the work of University of Ottawa law professor Michael Geist.
When Geist created a Facebook group last year for people opposed to what's expected in the legislation, he got a stunning 38,000+ members before you could say MP3. And most of them are young people.
Since then, Geist has done some number crunching and came up with a list he calls The Copyright MPs Members of Parliament from all parties who won their seats by a small margin and whose ridings either contain or are near a university. His thinking is that changes to copyright laws a red hot issue with so many students could well be a strong motivator come vote time.
Only ten of the 27 names on the list are Conservative MPs, but of course it's Conservative legislation.
