Poachers kill wood bison in park

A poaching incident is being investigated in Wood Buffalo National Park.

Hunters on snowmobiles chased down and killed a bison near Peace Point Indian Reserve last weekend. The meat was removed and transported to a nearby road.

Wood bison are protected. Hunting bison in the national park carries a maximum penalty of $10,000 and six months in jail.

Both the RCMP and park wardens are investigating.

They ask anyone with information to call the Wood Buffalo National Park office.
