A teenager who brutally murdered a cab driver in Pictou County is being transferred to a federal penitentiary.

Christopher Alexander Falconer was sentenced to six and a half years at a youth detention centre in the strangulation death of Robert Leblanc.

Falconer is now 18 and old enough to be transferred to the adult institution.

The youth centre holding him asked for a transfer to the Springhill prison after Falconer got into a fight that left another inmate with black eyes and a swollen face.
