P.E.I.'s privacy commissioner has opened an investigation into the disclosure of personal information that was sent out by the Liberal party last week

The news release was sent to the media hours after a controversial story broke in the Globe and Mail that outlined serious allegations about the Provincial Nominee Program made by three former government employees.

The news release from the Liberals included work histories of the women and information about a human rights complaint.

There were also emails attached to the release that appear to be sent from one of the women to Innovation Minister Alan Campbell.

Two of the women — LanaTenetko and Cora Plourd — have said they are upset with the release of their personal information.

The internal emails were received anonymously, Liberal party spokesman Spencer Campbell told CBC.
