The race
This was a very narrow win for the Liberals in 2007.
District profile
This is urban district takes in a large part of Stratford, the Island's third-largest community (pop. 7,083) and the fastest growing.
An expansion of the Hillsborough Bridge to four lanes in 1998 encouraged many people working in Charlottetown to locate in Stratford. The town's population grew 12.2 per cent between 2001 and 2006, and it continues to grow.
Growth in the area led to the construction of a new elementary school in 2010. Before the 2007 campaign there appeared to be momentum for a junior high school in the town — students are currently bused to Charlottetown — and the Progressive Conservatives promised to build one. But the Liberals won the government and elementary school education was expanded instead.
