Ontario provincial police are investigating after a woman was shot by either a pellet or air gun from a passing vehicle in Carleton Place.

Police say two women were walking along Moore Street in the small town about 50 km west of Ottawa at about 9 p.m. Sunday.

They said a small-sized dark grey or black four-door vehicle, with tinted windows and a loud muffler drove by when one of the passengers shot the pellet.

One of the passengers was also described as Caucasian with medium-length blonde hair.

The woman was not seriously injured but she was treated at hospital as a precaution and has since been released.
