A 66-year-old woman was run over by a car in a bizarre gardening incident on Tuesday morning, and she escaped with only minor injuries, paramedics say.

It happened on Montmorency Way, off Tenth Line Road in Orleans, just before 10:30 a.m.

The woman was pulling weeds out of her front yard when she suddenly fell backwards, paramedics said.

At the same moment, a sedan was backing out of the driveway. One of the rear tires ran over the woman's chest, paramedics said in a news release.

A neighbour saw what happened and rushed to help.

"When paramedics arrived, the woman was conscious and alert and was assessed to have suffered only minor injuries," paramedics said.

She was taken to hospital in stable condition.
