Const. Michael Robillard died in a head-on crash northeast of Greely in November 2013
A 29-year-old woman has been charged with failing to drive in a marked lane in relation to a November 2013 crash that killed an off-duty Ottawa police officer.
Const. Michael Robillard, 32, was on his way to work when he was involved in a head-on crash with a Dodge minivan on Nov. 17 on 8th Line Road, south of Parkway Road. He died at the scene.
Firefighters extricated the driver of the van and her seven-year-old daughter from the wreckage. The driver was treated for broken bones, cuts and a punctured lung. Her daughter was also hospitalized but released the day after the crash.
After six months, the collisions unit has completed its investigation. Police issued a press release Saturday afternoon announcing that the 29-year-old driver of the van was being charged under the Highway Traffic Act.
Robillard began his policing career in Cornwall in 2004 before he was hired by the Ottawa Police Service in September 2009. He was a husband and father to a three-year-old son.
