Winterlude is over for 2014, and organizers believe it's been one of their busiest seasons ever thanks to the cold weather and good ice conditions on the Rideau Canal Skateway.

On average, about 600,000 people attend the annual winter festival each year.

In recent years, warm weather forced the cancellation of some Winterlude events and the canal was frequently closed due to slushy, melting ice.

This year, no events were cancelled.

It was also the first year the festival was run by Canadian Heritage, instead of the National Capital Commission. Some people complained there wasn't enough advertising, and that it was difficult to find out about the different events.

Organizers said it's a problem they hope to fix for 2015.
