Easter weekend means many municipal and other public services are closed, particularly on Good Friday and Easter Monday. Here is a list of what will be closed or running on a reduced schedule in Ottawa on the weekend.

Museums: open or closed?

National Gallery of Canada: Closed on Good Friday, open on Easter and Easter Monday.

Canadian Museum of Nature: Open all weekend, including Good Friday and Easter Monday (it is normally closed Mondays).

Canadian Museum of Civilization, Canadian Aviation and Space Museum, Canadian War Museum, Canadian Science and Technology Museum: regular weekend hours.

Canadian Agricultural Museum has annual Easter on the Farm programming from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. all weekend.

Closed on both Good Friday and Easter Monday

  • Ottawa Public Library branches, services.
  • Hydro Ottawa call centre.
  • Ottawa City Hall client service centres.
  • Provincial Offences Court.
  • The Trail Waste Facility.
  • OC Transpo Sales and Information Centres.
  • OC Transpo Customer Relations Department.
  • City-operated Child Care Centres.
  • Site program office, though mobile van be operating.

Also closed on Easter Sunday

  • OC Transpo Sales and Information Centres.
  • Ottawa Public Library branches, services.

Closed all weekend

  • Dental Clinics.
  • Ottawa Public Health Information Line and Aids-Sexual Health Info Line.
  • Sexual Health Centre and Satellite Clinics.
  • Well Baby Drop-in.

Reduced, Altered service

  • Many pools, fitness centres and some arenas will be open Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday for public swimming, skating and fitness classes with modified schedules. But many registered programs at those pools, community centres and arenas will be cancelled on Good Friday and Easter Monday. Check with the facility to confirm.
  • Curbside green bin, recycling or garbage collection on Good Friday will happen on Saturday, March 30, while Easter Monday collection will happen on Tues., April 2.

  • Multi-residential green bin and recycling collection will be similarly moved back a day, and the delay will continue into next week. Multi-residential garbage collection won't change.

  • OC Transpo will operate on a Sunday schedule on Good Friday and a reduced weekday schedule on Easter Monday. Call 613-560-1000 or text 560560 plus your four-digit bus stop number for automated schedule information.

  • OC Transpo Information Centre (613-741-4390) will operate from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Good Friday and from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Easter Monday.
