Victims ID'd after fatal March Road, Carling Avenue crash
2 dead, 2 critically injured after Sunday afternoon crash in west Ottawa
Ottawa police have released the names of two men who died in a two-vehicle collision in west Ottawa Sunday afternoon.
It happened at the intersection of March Road and Carling Avenue at about 1:10 p.m. on Sunday.
The two men that were stopped in the Toyota were pronounced dead at the scene, paramedics said.
On Thursday, police identified the men as Jonathan Goicoechea, 33, and Daniel Louks, 49.
A father and son were in the vehicle that struck the median, police said. The son, 39 was driving and the father, 70, was in the passenger seat.
They both had to be freed by firefighters, who removed both driver's side doors, according to the fire department.
One man was taken to hospital in an ambulance and the other in an Ornge air ambulance, he said. Ottawa paramedics said they sustained critical, life-threatening injuries.
The men are recovering in hospital and investigators were hoping to interview them.
Police said there are no traffic cameras at the intersection and they are asking any witnesses to come forward.
The intersection was closed for about eight hours to allow the Ottawa police collisions unit to investigate. The roads have since been reopened.
