Vehicles destroyed in early morning auto repair shop fire
2 people were working in Ramsayville Road shop at 3:30 a.m.; 1 worker suffered burns on hand
An auto repair and auction shop on Ramsayville Road caught fire early Tuesday morning, injuring a worker who was in the shop at the time and causing an estimated $750,000 in damage.
Four or five vehicles believed to have been in the garage at the time were destroyed. Firefighters managed to protect two industrial propane tanks at the side of the building, but the flames spread to a trailer containing tires that was parked nearby.
Two people were working in the shop when the fire broke out. One of the suffered burns on a hand, firefighters said.
Damage to the building and its contents was estimated at about $750,000. The Office of the Fire Marshal of Ontario is being notified and an investigation into the cause of the fire is under way.
The cause of the fire is not considered suspicious because two people were working inside at the time, said fire department spokesman Marc Messier.
Ramsayville Road was closed in both directions between Leitrim Road and Whyte Side Road.
