A two-year-old girl drowned earlier this week in a pool at her home in the village of Russell, according to Ontario Provincial Police.
It happened at about 6:25 p.m. on Monday, according to Russell County OPP.
When police arrived family members were trying to resuscitate the girl, said OPP spokeswoman Const. Kristine Rae. She was taken to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
An autopsy at The Ottawa Hospital on Wednesday indicated her death was consistent with drowning.
The girl was in the care of her family at the time, and her name is not being released.
Police are reminding people to use extreme caution and keep a constant watch on children in and around any body of water, big or small.
