There's still one more fireworks displays taking place at Dow's Lake in Little Italy this week to celebrate the Tulip Festival after Wednesday's light show.

  • Saturday, May 17, from 9:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The best viewing areas will be on the north, east and south sides of Dow’s Lake. People are encouraged to bike, walk or use public transit to avoid traffic congestion.

Wednesday's fireworks marked the 20th anniversary of an international friendship program started by the Ottawa Tulip Festival, which now includes seven cities in other countries.

Saturday's fireworks, meanwhile, will pay tribute to the international friendship program. But it will also feature a preview of the International Floral Friendship Fireworks planned for 2015, in which fireworks will happen each night of the Tulip Festival.

"Next year marks the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Europe and Canada’s lead role in the liberation of the Netherlands, which gave birth to the Canadian Tulip Festival following the gift of tulips from the Netherlands to the people of Canada, creating a lasting legacy and enduring friendship," says the Tulip Festival's website.

"Since then the tulip has become Ottawa’s official flower and a floral symbol of friendship around the world. Fireworks performances planned each night for the 70th anniversary in May 2015 will feature floral fireworks creations from European countries liberated during WWII."
