Truck driver fights for life in Ottawa hospital after crash

Two tractor-trailers collided early Saturday morning knocking one of the trucks into a ditch and sending its driver to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A tractor-trailer driver is in hospital with life-threatening injuries after his vehicle crashed with another tractor-trailer and tumbled into a ditch on Highway 416.

Ontario Provincial Police responded at about 4:15 a.m. Saturday to the northbound lanes of Hwy. 416 between Bankfield and Fallowfield roads where a driver was trapped behind his steering wheel.

Firefighters extricated the man about 30 minutes later and paramedics took him to hospital.

Highway 416 northbound remains closed at Roger Stevens Drive. Drivers are asked to take detours.

Police continue to investigate and they ask anyone who may have any information about the crash to call the OPP detachment at 613-270-9171.
