Justin Lacroix at Avant Garde Bar (Saturday, 9 p.m.)
On Saturday night everyone should be making like ghosts and haunting the galleries and participating venues of Nuit Blanche. I suggest you warm up at Avant Garde Bar first. Ottawa's own Claude Munson and Gabriel Bouchard are doing their part to show the union of the two solitudes by hosting Franco Manitoban Justin Lacroix. Lacroix sings about half in French, half in English, which is probably very much how he operated day-to-day as a French-speaker growing up in Winnipeg. He's bluesy-folky with a touch of rock and roll. Presumably it'll be just Justin and his guitar at Avant Garde Bar Saturday night, in esteemed local company.
Don't forget to tune-in to Bandwidth Saturday at 5:05 p.m. on CBC Radio One, 91.5FM. I've planned a show highlighting the albums that were short-listed for the 2013 Polaris Music Prize. The gala is Monday in Toronto, and I'm heading there to cover it. I have a Bandwidth SPRINTerview with Zaki Ibrahim, I'll play a chat Alan Neal had with Ottawa nominees METZ &A Tribe Called Red, and I'm going to try sneak in a little of the David Francey interview before he heads across Ontario on tour.
