Suspicious envelope at Passport Canada office deemed safe
200 employees in Gatineau, Que., were told to stay inside workplace after worker found envelope
Gatineau police say 200 Passport Canada employees are now able to leave work after an unidentified white powder was found inside an envelope Thursday morning.
Police responded to a suspicious package at 22 rue de Varennes just after 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
An employee found white powder inside an envelope that came from Toronto and police followed protocol for a dangerous substance.
Police quarantined 200 workers inside the Passport Canada office while the Ottawa Fire Services HAZMAT team responded.
The substance was deemed to be safe late Thursday afternoon and workers were allowed to leave.
