Two people were rescued from a Lyon Street rooming house on Monday night after a fire started in one of the units.

The call came in at 292 Lyon St. N. just before 9 p.m.

Both rescued people were assessed at the scene by paramedics and didn't require further treatment.

Firefighters also rescued a family pet.

Damage to the unit and its contents is estimated at about $150,000.

No one was hurt, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Basement fire in Barrhaven

Three hours later, an electrical appliance caught fire in the basement of a home at 50 Foxfield Dr. in Barrhaven.

Everyone in the home managed to get out safely by the time firefighters arrived.

No one was hurt.

Damage was estimated at about $3,000.
