Bancroft man charged with attempted murder of OPP officer

A 24-year-old Bancroft man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly assaulting a police officer during an altercation over the weekend.
It happened early Saturday morning at a home on Old L'Amable Road, where Ontario Provincial Police were responding to a 911 call.
As officers were escorting the 24-year-old, Shane Callow, out of the residence, OPP allege he picked up a weapon and struck one of the officers.
Police said shots were then fired, striking Callow several times and hitting a 45-year-old man who lives at the home once in the arm.
Police could not specify the weapon used by the suspect due to an ongoing investigation by the province's police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit.
The SIU is called to probe cases of death, serious injury and alleged sexual assault involving police.
The injured officer, Callow and the 45-year-old man were taken to Kingston General Hospital with "serious" injuries, OPP spokeswoman Sgt. Kristine Rae said at the time.
The Bancroft OPP crime unit charged Callow with one count of attempted murder. He remains in custody in hospital, OPP said.
