A former west Ottawa Catholic school teacher accused of having sex with a student has agreed to never again teach at an Ontario public or private school.
Mitchell Khalil Thomas faced an Ontario College of Teachers disciplinary hearing in Toronto Thursday in connection with allegations of sexual abuse and having a sexual relationship with a student between June and November of 2010.
However, Thomas agreed to a plea deal, and the college withdrew all allegations of professional misconduct. The former teacher will permanently resign from teaching in Ontario, according to a written decision.
The college said the key witness would not testify, which means the allegations of misconduct would have been difficult to prove. Nevertheless, Thomas agreed to stop teaching.
Thomas will resign as a member of the college of teachers and he agreed to never teach in a public or private school in Ontario.
Thomas was employed by the Ottawa Catholic School Board and taught at a Kanata school, according to the college.
According to his profile, he graduated in 2006 from the University of Ottawa with a Bachelor of Arts, as well as the University of Newcastle in Australia with a graduate diploma in education.
Thomas received his teacher's certificate in 2007.
