Jacques Faucher is facing six additional counts of gross indecency and indecent assault. (CBC)Ottawa police have laid six additional counts of gross indecency and indecent assault against a retired Roman Catholic priest already facing charges related to the alleged sexual assault of a boy in the early 1970s.
Jacques Faucher of Gatineau, Que., was charged Thursday and appeared in court via video on Friday to face the additional charges.
Police said the new charges relate to incidents between 1969 and 1974 involving four alleged victims.
Faucher, 76, was already facing one count each of gross indecency and indecent assault on a male in relation to incidents alleged to have occurred in Ottawa between 1971 and 1973. The complainant in that instance was seven years old in 1971, police said.
Faucher was released after posting a bond.
Under the conditions of his previous bail, Faucher is not to have contact with alleged victims or their families, is not be with a child under 16 years old without the supervision of the child's parent or guardian and is not allowed to frequent pools, libraries, parks, schools — and other places where there are children. He also cannot possess an electronic device such as a computer, cell phone or camera.
The new charges come after police asked anyone with information about the incident or other incidents to contact them.
Ordained in 1960, Faucher served at four parishes: Notre Dame-des-Anges, Saint-Louis-Marie-de-Montfort, Sainte-Jeanne-d’Arc and Christ-Roi.
He taught at the Grand Séminaire as well as several high schools and served as a French language consultant, according to his profile with the Archdiocese of Ottawa.
Police are asking anyone with information about this incident or other incidents to contact them at 613-236-1222, ext. 5944, or Crime Stoppers at 613-233-8477.
