Ottawa teacher accused of having sex with student

A west Ottawa Catholic school teacher could lose his teaching licence for allegations he had sex with a female student.
Mitchell Khalil Thomas faces an Ontario College of Teachers disciplinary hearing in Toronto Thursday in relation to alleged acts that began at the end of the 2009-10 school year.
The college accuses Thomas of having a sexual relationship with a female student, sending her text messages, speaking to her on the phone, having private meetings with her off school property and posting messages on her Facebook page.
He is also accused of allowing the student to drive him in her car and driving the student in his car, with all acts allegedly happening between June and November of 2010.
Thomas was employed by the Ottawa Catholic School Board and taught at a Kanata school, according to the college.
According to his profile, Thomas graduated in 2006 from the University of Ottawa with a Bachelor of Arts, as well as the University of Newcastle in Australia with a graduate diploma in education.
He registered for his teacher's certificate in 2007, which is in good standing, but it currently indicates he needs to take an additional course to fulfill that standing. The limitation expires in May.
