Ottawa's two newest sports teams were unveiled as the new soccer team will be Ottawa Fury FC and the new basketball team will be the Ottawa Tomahawks.
Ottawa's entry in the relatively new National Basketball League of Canada will be named the "Tomahawks," officials with Bytown Sports and Entertainment announced Tuesday afternoon.
Ottawa will become the NBL's ninth team in addition to Windsor, London, Oshawa, Montreal, Moncton, Saint John, Halifax and Summerside.
The league is entering its third season and Ottawa will first hit the court in November at Scotiabank Place.
The name of the local North American Soccer League team, set to debut in 2014, was announced at the Algonquin Sports Complex.
The name, Ottawa Fury Football Club, is also the name of a local soccer organization owned by Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group principal John Pugh.
OSEG said it received more than 4,000 submissions in their naming campaign. The team is scheduled to begin its inaugural season at Frank Clair Stadium at Lansdowne Park.
The group is also working on picking a name for the city's Canadian Football League franchise, but hasn't said when that name will be revealed.
