Eight people — including a family of four who were due to move into their recently renovated home on Saturday — have been displaced after two separate residential fires in Ottawa on Friday night and Saturday morning.

The first blaze broke out at 2105 Lauzon St. at about 8:30 p.m. Friday.

Firefighters said a vehicle parked near a garage was engulfed in flames by the time they arrived, and that the flames had spread to the garage.

It took about 15 minutes to bring the fire under control. No one was hurt.

Two adults and two children living at the two-storey home have been displaced and were being helped by the Salvation Army. Damage to the vehicle, the home and their contents is estimated at about $100,000.

The second fire broke out at 681 Pleasant Park Rd. at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

Firefighters said they received a 911 call from someone living nearby who reported smoke coming from a house that was being renovated.

No one was home at the time, but a family of four was due to move in Saturday. Only tools and appliances were inside, the fire department said.

The split-level home was engulfed in flames by the time fire crews arrived. It took about 20 minutes to bring the fire under control.

One firefighter suffered an injury to his hand, paramedics said, and was taken to hospital in stable condition for stitches.

Damage is estimated at about $325,000. The family will be staying at the home they were renting during renovations, the fire department said.
