Ottawa police were not responsible in any way for a murder-suicide in the south Ottawa community of North Gower on Tuesday, the province's Special Investigations Unit has said.
The SIU, in completing their investigation, revealed more details about the deaths of Peter Thomasing, 39, and his 75-year-old father James Thomasing.
The investigators said a 39-year-old man called police at 10 p.m., said he had killed his father and that he was going to kill himself with a firearm next to him, the SIU said.
The man then put down the phone but left the line open. Three minutes later, 911 operators heard a shot through the phone.
Officers were dispatched to the home on Pierce Road and a robot was deployed inside, where it found the bodies of the two men.
"There is no evidence that the officers caused or contributed in any way to the death of either man … Accordingly, the SIU investigation has been terminated," the SIU said in a Friday statement.
The SIU investigates cases of serious injury, death or sexual assault involving police.Share Tools
