A former Ottawa elementary school teacher has been charged with child luring over the internet from his home in North Gower, a suburb in the city's south end.

Ottawa police have charged Léon Beaulieu, 60, who they said has taught in multiple local school boards over more than 25 years. He faces two counts of child luring using a computer, two counts of making sexually explicit material available to a child and two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm.

The man was charged following an online child luring investigation. A search warrant was also executed at his home, where police seized electronic devices and firearms.

He was scheduled to appear in court Saturday.

The man's online resumé indicates he graduated from the University of Ottawa before teaching in high schools and elementary schools at the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board, the Ottawa Catholic School Board, the Upper Canada District School Board and other school boards across Ontario.

His most recent work ended in August 2011, according to the resumé, which also said he was a professor at his alma mater in the late 1980s.
