Ottawa city councillor suffers health setback
Stephen Blais's heart is in stable condition, but he's now suffering from severe pneumonia

Ottawa city councillor Stephen Blais is facing a new health hurdle, according to a statement from this family, as he has contracted pneumonia while recovering from a heart attack.

(CBC)Blais is on medical leave from his job as councillor of Cumberland ward in east Ottawa as he continues to recover from a heart attack suffered while working out at a GoodLife Fitness in Place D'Orleans mall on Jan. 6.
His family said his heart is in stable condition, but he now has a severe case of pneumonia. He remains at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.
"We have the utmost confidence in the medical care that Stephen is receiving at the Heart Institute, which has been comforting to us during these times," said a statement from Blais's family.
"We know Stephen is a fighter, which strengthens our belief that he will overcome this temporary setback."
Blais was in a medically induced coma for two days after the incident to help his recovery, which is a procedure often used after cardiac arrests.
His family has also said the councillor is "positively responding to treatment."
The family has been receiving financial donations and has decided to give them to the heart institute, according to an earlier statement.
